Location: on-site/remote aligned with European CET/CEST
Reporting to: CTO
Start date: ASAP
At OTee, we are rethinking industrial automation from the ground up. Our momentum is driven by a clear market need across geographies and a strong support from strategic, international investors. If you've been looking for a place where your work can shape an entire industry (and where you'll feel the energy of real progress every day), this is it. You'll be joining a lean but growing team that values curiosity, technical excellence, and impact.
💡About the Role
As Backend Developer (Platform & Reliability) at OTee, you will build out the backend services that power our platform. You will work alongside the existing backend team - contributing to shared architecture decisions, owning the CI/CD and observability surface, and holding backend systems accountable to a 99.95% availability target.
💪 Key Responsibilities
Build Platform Backend Services: Build and maintain services that integrate the platform's data layer, messaging fabric, and external interfaces - production implementations in Go and/or Python, deployed on cloud Kubernetes with on-prem variants depending on customer context.
Contribute to Backend Architecture Decisions: Co-own architectural decisions with the existing backend team across data modeling, messaging semantics, service boundaries, and cloud/on-prem deployment trade-offs.
Own CI/CD Pipeline Development and Reliability: Develop, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and GitOps deployment workflows (ArgoCD on EKS) for pipeline performance, reliability, and developer ergonomics.
Drive Backend Reliability Toward a 99.95% SLA: Own observability for backend services on the new Prometheus/Grafana infrastructure, establish reliability practices for distributed systems, and participate in incident response events where necessary.
🔎 What We're Looking For
At OTee, we're building a world-class team - people who strive to be the best version of themselves and bring speed, precision, and care for the systems they build. If you're excited by the idea of setting new standards in industrial automation, you'll fit right in.
Education & Experience
5+ years of backend development experience, with significant time spent on architecture and system design
Has designed and operated multiple microservices in production
Has built and operated pub/sub / event-driven messaging in production, with a track record of making the calls these systems demand: delivery semantics, schema, ordering, error handling
Has built and maintained CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or equivalent) - pipeline performance, reliability, and developer ergonomics, not just running templates
Has deployed and/or operated observability infrastructure (Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent) in distributed systems beyond consuming dashboards built by others
Has handled production incidents in distributed systems
Deep understanding of relational database design and modeling (PostgreSQL or equivalent)
Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes, ideally with GitOps (ArgoCD) and AWS-managed services such as EKS and RDS
Production experience with Redis for caching, session, or state management
Strong API design experience REST, gRPC, OpenAPI/Protobuf contracts
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Nice to have: exposure to industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT)
(Technical) Skills
Languages: Golang and/or Python
Architecture: Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, DDD
Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis, RDS instances (NoSQL a plus)
Messaging: NATS preferred (Kafka/RabbitMQ also relevant)
Containerization & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, CircleCI, ArgoCD
Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana
🎯 Personal Qualities
Ownership of shared responsibility: You feel full responsibility for the backend function and are able to make sure all required functionalities and components are delivered to high quality and in a timely manner, independently and as a team
Reliability mindset: You design and ship services with their failure modes, observability, and recovery paths in mind from day one, not as an afterthought
Collaborative Spirit and Communication: Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Attention to Detail: Ensuring high-quality, technical solutions that adhere to industry standards and best practices
Strategic Thinking: Strong understanding of technical trade-offs and ability to balance performance, scalability, and maintainability with business objectives
Interest in Industry 4.0: extra brownie points if you know what a PLC is and understand OT/IT security convergence
